Studio Visit with Salustiano Garcia in Seville

Salustiano Garcia and I met many years ago in Art Basel Miami Beach.  I was smitten by his sense of humor and his undeniable “Andaluz” style. Although he lives and works in Seville, Salustiano, his wife, artist Angela Lergo, and his son Horacio, are always traveling around the world.  Salustiano is a master painter who utilizes renaissance techniques to create gorgeous portraits that contrast with intense monochromatic backgrounds.  His most important series to date have been white, red or black.  His round formats are particularly enticing but the ethereal quality of his subjects and the beauty of their expressions are by far the most compelling feature of his pieces regardless of whether the canvas is round, square or rectangular.  Salustiano’s pieces are constantly in some of the most important art fairs around the world.  In the United States, he is represented by Kavachnina Contemporary in Miami.

Salustiano works in a gloriously illuminated lower level in his house in Seville and shares the large and bright space with Angela, who is a sculpture master.  I loved visiting him and his beautiful house and look forward to seeing more of his magical work this coming December in Miami.
