Marni and the Art of Dressing Artists
I was very honored when I knew that Marni would host what would be the last 2013 party for my coffee table book “Out There” in their Miami boutique (which opened five years ago during Art Basel). I really love Marni and what they have done with fashion: they stand for what they believe and in the process the clothing pieces and accessories have become very unique, like nothing else that is out there (no pun intended). Consuelo Castiglione has developed a boho-chic yet sophisticated and versatile brand that mixes bold prints and patterns with intricate embroideries and feminine shapes. Marni has been a pioneer of art collaborations, partnering with Richard Prince, Brian Rea, Rop van Mierlo, Gary Hume and many others.
Traditionally, Marni is a brand that contemporary artists themselves love to wear. I think it is because how unexpected the designs could be and also for the great amount of color, images and details, which relates so well to the art world. Two of my favorite artists, Cindy Sherman and Marilyn Minter, both wear Marni –quite a lot. Polly Borland, the British artist and photographer who now lives in LA has accurately said that Marni is “the Dr Seuss and Gaudi of the Fashion world. Consuelo’s work is Sculptural with an Absurdist sense of humor!!”
I worn a cardamom, black and cream long dress from the brand new Evening Resort Collection 2014 and styled with one of their gorgeous sequined belts and a shiny-chic necklace.
