Walls That Pop - Andy Warhol x Flavorpaper
“I don’t think less is more. More is better. Big paintings cost more than little paintings, and magazines pay by the word.” -
Andy Warhol
Last Thursday I went to the launch party of the spectacular wallpaper line that Flavorpaper created together with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. For anyone who isn't familiar with the licensing and selection process that the foundation has in place, I just have to say that it is very, very complex and not just given to anyone. But Flavorpaper isn't just a wallpaper company, it is more than that. It's a highly artisanal lab where a very meticulous hand screened process delivers rolls of the most exquisite, color-loaded, fun, dynamic wallpaper.
Around 36 designs in a wide variety of colors plus a total customizable "Last Supper" mural are currently available. Each of the models was, of course, created with Andy's designs. I can only imagine a dressing room covered in the shoes or a kid bedroom embraced by the flowers. The possibilities are endless and I'm so excited about this collaboration.
The story behind the selection of each design is fascinating, just like Andy was. The fact that the foundation has been able to continue so much of Warhol's original vision is extraordinary, not to mention the more than $250,000,000 that have been distributed in cash grants supporting the creation of of contemporary visual arts. More designs will come in the near future and I'm absolutely certain that I will be using these wallpapers in my clients' projects very soon.
