Titina Penzini is a renaissance woman in every sense of the word. It is very difficult to come across someone who excels at doing so many things: DJ extraordinaire, exquisite jewelry designer, amazing illustrator, author of several books including the wildly successful 100% Chic -whose foreword was written by Carolina Herrera, blogger, brand spokesperson, TV and radio host, social media maven and the list goes on. Titina divides her time between NYC and Caracas (where I was born!) and I was lucky to have her write a beautiful guest post about the Venice Biennale here. She’s a very, very special woman and these are her obsessions:
Jean-Michel Basquiat: Street poet and great symbology, I love all his works.
Alex Israel: Very young, very talented, very must have!
Jean Michel Othoniel: His glass installations are amazing. I want one!
Elias Crespin: He is a neo kinetic artist and an engineer of visual movement. Amazing.
Maria Luisa Tadei: Her love for Venetian craftsmanship is present in her works. Superbe!
Shinro Othake: His collection of collage book is out of this world.
Airan Kang: The book sculptures are a must see! Amazing work!
Andre Saraiva: I love his graffiti works and his pop art posters as well as his impossible concert works!
Maurizio Cattelan: For his controversial works which always amaze me.
Eliott Puckette: His calligraphic inspired paintings amaze me as well!
Right now I am obsessed with Paola Navone's collaboration with Crate & Barrell - I think it is a refined collection; the pied de poule patterns are amazing for indoors as well as for outdoors, the banquettes are extremely chic! And the best part? The collection is totally affordable! Perfect combination: great design at wonderful price!
A PLACE TO ESCAPE
When in Venezuela I love to escape to our house in Margarita Island, sort of a modern bungalow with all the amenities. It is a walking distance to Playa El Agua where I can listen to music, watch my husband and daughter play paddle, swim and eat oysters from local fishermen.
When I travel abroad I mostly go to two cities to get inspired: Paris because I lived there for many years and I have many dear friends so I have a need to go back every now and then to get a creative spark from art exhibits, fashion, new restaurants etc. And my other home in East Harlem, a little Paris in New York, a place that I love to go to and indulge!
CURRENT FASHION OBSSESION
The fashion item that is obsessing me at the moment is Bruno Frisoni's reinterpretation of the Talon Virgule, the iconic “Comma Heel” that legendary designer Roger Vivier launched in the 50's. We can find this new version at Roger Vivier's boutiques and The Palais de Tokyo is doing a beautiful exhibition of 140 most iconic shoes of Vivier's work as well as Bruno Frisoni's interpretations for our contemporary era.
