Shelter Island is part of the Hamptons, yet is not typically “Hampton” style. I love its uniqueness and the fact that access is restricted to a ferry boat ride. Although the Sunset Beach Hotel brought some hype to the island, it didn’t take away its distinctiveness. I’m always so smitten by the semi-secret shopping/dining spots there: Marika's Antiques is an amazing source for vintage and mid 20th century modern furniture, lighting, accents and more. It’s really a place to spend hours browsing since it has several “warehouses” plus outdoor displays and the prices are so good…. It’s almost like I don’t want anyone to know! Marie Eiffel has a gorgeous boutique with beachy kaftans, colorful prints and brand new spill-proof bottles in every imaginable color. The boutique at the Sunset Beach Hotel carries a quite edited selection from international brands like Pucci, Eres, Poupette, K Jacques, Si Belle and Celestina. Oh, and the restaurants, like La Maison Blanche and the Vine Street Café, are simply sublime. I can’t wait to get back, or maybe even get a house there!
