Besides contemporary art, I have an obsession with design, of course. One of the areas that excites me the most is fine porcelain design and nobody does that better than the French house of Bernardaud. I have some of their plates and trays and nothing makes me happier than having guests, throwing a dinner party and using my bold plates which are a great topic of conversation. It’s almost as making the dining table become an art installation by and in itself. Even in my book, I dedicate a few pages to plates designed by contemporary artists and to the art of entertaining. For their 150th anniversary and coinciding with Frieze Week, Bernardaud celebrated with a lavish cocktail in their Park Avenue boutique, opened another store in West Chelsea and released all these fabulous pieces in collaboration with contemporary artists. I want them all and can only imagine arranging my tablescapes around these collections. Some are edgier and some more romantic but all equally amazing. My favorite, by all means, is the series designed by Jeff Koons. Can you imagine setting a table with all of the pieces from the “Banality” collection?
