Celia Chen invited me to the 14th annual auction benefiting Free Arts NYC and I was thrilled to attend along with some friends. The event -which was packed beyond belief- took place at The Eyebeam Center for Art + Technology and honored Richard Phillips. The pieces up for auction were all displayed in a gallery-like setting on a long wall and I was mesmerized by a pair of screenprints with horses by Charming Baker that I badly wanted to take home with me. To the delight of the attendees, DJ Chelsea Layland was spinning and Oh Land performed in a night that has become a staple of the art scene in New York City for almost 15 years.
Free Arts NYC is an extraordinary organization that provides under-served children and families with a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential.
