About Katherine Bernhardt

Katherine's paintings embody cosmopolitan edginess. Her lush canvases, which themselves pose as the currency of beguiling luxury, incorporate all the fantasy trappings of seduction, decadence and corruption, each charged with sordid soap operatic climax. She received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York and bachelors of fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Bernhardt's work has been exhibited extensively both in New York and internationally. Recent solo exhibitions include shows at CANADA Gallery in New York, Carbon 12 in Dubai, Patricia Low Contemporary in Gstaad, V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve in Paris and Loyal Gallery in Stockholm. Notable group exhibitions include shows at Macro Future Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, The Saatchi Gallery in London, Fondation Solomon pour l'art Contemporain in Alex, France, The City Center for Contemporary Art in Antwerp, Belgium and The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Connecticut. In 2007 Katherine was chosen by Chanel to produce a store installation in connection with the launch of the brand's J-12 watch launch in New York. In 2008 PictureBox Books published Katherine's "The Magnificent Excess of Snoop Dogg" a lush and punchy book based on fashion and pop culture. Bernhardt's solo exhibits in 2013 and 2014 were singled out by New York Magazine's senior art critic, Jerry Saltz, as part of "The Best Art Shows of the Year". Katherine and her work have been extensively covered in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Interview Magazine, The New Yorker, Elle Magazine, V Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Art in London, Art in Review, Flaunt Magazine, Paper Magazine, The Telegraph and more.
