About Trudy Benson

Trudy is a Brooklyn artist known for her large-scale abstract paintings that were initially inspired by early digital imaging programs like MacPaint and Windows Paint. Incorporating graphic layering paint applications—airbrush, enamel, extruded oil paint—she makes work that references our recent digital past while remaining anchored in the painterly tradition.  She received an MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY and a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Trudy's paintings have been featured in exhibitions at The Saatchi Gallery in London, UK, New Britain Museum of Art, New Britain, CT, The Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA; Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation, Jersey City, NJ; Oakland University Art Gallery, Rochester, MI and the Bruce High Quality Foundation, New York. Trudy and her work have been covered in numerous publications including The New York Times, Artforum, I-D Magazine, Modern Painters, Village Voice, ARTNews, Time Out London and Huffington Post, among others. The artist has had three solo shows in New York City galleries and her fourth solo exhibition will open in April 2015, at Lisa Cooley in New York.
