There are approximately 300 contemporary art fairs in the world and they keep proliferating at a neck breaking pace. I probably go to 50, maybe 75 of these fairs every year. Frieze New York is truly one of the best. Edgy, fun, ahead of the curve and with a spectacular tent and sculpture garden on Randall's Island that would put any other major fair to shame. Here is my selection of established, mid-career and emerging artists whose pieces caught my eye during the preview on May 9.
